The Silver Frame Film Residency is a five-day creative program for young filmmakers from former Yugoslav countries. Through close collaboration with professional mentors, participants create short films that explore climate change, ecology, community, and life in small towns.
location
The residency takes place in Srebrenica and Bratunac, where film becomes a tool for connection, reflection, and dialogue with the local environment and people. Working with mobile devices, filmmakers develop their projects from idea to final cut in an intensive, hands-on process.
results
The 2025 edition resulted in five short films, all screened during the closing ceremony of the 2nd Silver Frame Film Festival. Three films received festival awards.
The Silver Frame Film Residency was officially presented at the Sarajevo Film Festival 2025, where all five films were screened as part of the Teen Arena Programme.
Odbačena by Zafar Berkovac was also selected for the Teen Action – Sarajevo Film Festival – Under 18 -Competition and received the Third prize.

In Srebrenica and nearby villages, opportunities like these are often hard to access. Through SFFF, we aim to bridge this gap, bringing these valuable experiences closer to young locals and empowering them to explore their creative potential.
results
Fourteen students from this locality participated in the Strip Storyboard Cartoon Film Workshop with mentor Berin Tuzlić to explore the basics of animation techniques. They work together, as one group, in developing characters in motion. All participants have been asked to draw a character in run, contributing their unique artistic take to this group project.
The workshop ended with a two-minute short animated film called Trčanje (Running) that really reflected the creativity and group work of the students, which was screened proudly during the final day of the Silver Frame Film Festival, showcasing the latent talent and commitment of these youngsters.
MASTERCLASSES
Silver Frame masterclasses are designed with a strong focus on empowering the local community by bringing world-class cinematic knowledge and expertise directly to the people of the region.
The program aims to bridge the gap between global expertise and local talent, offering participants the chance to learn directly from experts, gain deep insights into the filmmaking process, and explore narrative and structural techniques.
HOW TO CRITICALLY WATCH A FILM
masterclass 2024
At the inaugural Silver Frame Film Festival, we proudly hosted a Masterclass How to Criticaly Watch a Film tailored to enrich the cinematic knowledge of young jurors from the local area and international participants alike. This educational session was designed for individuals passionate about film and those serving as official jurors of the festival.


This masterclass was held for the official Local Young Jury and the International Young Jurors to help them develop a critical view on film viewing. Titled “How to Criticaly Watch a Film“, this workshop gave participants all the necessary tools and techniques that are crucial to carry out the role of a juror.
This masterclass provided fundamental cinematic knowledge to the participants of the Silver Frame Film Festival and was open to its audience.
